About 1774, Don Carlos Fernandez led a successful counterstrike against the camp of a Comanche war party east of Santa Fe. His force of 600 troops, civilians and Indian allies drove many of the Comanches into a pond, killing approximately 400 and captured large herds of animals and other spoils.
