After the 1823 Apache murder of a Franciscan lay brother on the San Gabriel River, Captain Nicolas Flores led a force of 30 soldiers and 30 mission Indians into Apache country to punish the perpetrators. The small party found and attacked an Apache village to the north and west, killing thirty-four and capturing twenty women and children. Back to Southern Plains Map |
