Fort Zumwalt

Back to Northern Early American Forts

The passive park in our system, Fort Zumwalt is approximately 48 acres of woods and trails, acquired from the State in 1978. Fort Zumwalt Park, located in O'Fallon, Missouri, is the home of Lake Whetsel, a 4 acre lake open for fishing February through October 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. This park also houses the Fort Zumwalt Pavilion, Fort Zumwalt Shelter House, 1 playground and 1 play structure. There is a lot of history in Fort Zumwalt Park, including the still standing chimney from the original Fort Zumwalt. Fort Zumwalt is the home of the annual Christmas Light drive through display, the Celebration of Lights.
